How braces work
Orthodontic braces mainly consist of three parts: Brackets, arch wire, and ligature. The brackets are bonded directly to the teeth using a special dental adhesive. The arch wire runs through each bracket and applies gentle pressure to the teeth. The ligature (the colorful part) holds the arch wire firmly on the bracket.

Over time, your teeth will be moved by the pressure of the arch wire. Once your teeth have moved comfortably, a new arch wire is placed to align your teeth further.
The Process
Step 1: Free Consultation
It all starts with a free consultation. At Smile Clinic, we offer free consultations for all orthodontic services. Our doctors will take a look at your teeth and take x-rays to determine the best way to get your smile aligned. From there, you will discuss the treatment plan, expected duration of the treatment, as well as financing options available to you.
Step 2: Braces Placement
At your next appointment, your braces will be bonded to your teeth using dental adhesive. Brackets, wires, and other components may be used to apply gentle pressure to your teeth, guiding them into place throughout the duration of your treatment.
Step 3: Follow-Up Appointments
Follow-up appointments will be scheduled so our orthodontic team can closely monitor your progress and determine if changes need to be made to the treatment plan. Brackets and wires will be adjusted at these appointments to ensure that your teeth are moving into proper alignment.
Step 4: Removal and Retention
When your teeth have moved into proper alignment and you are happy with the result, the braces will be removed. Your teeth will be cleaned and polished to ensure the final result looks beautiful. You will be given a retainer to keep your teeth in place long after the braces are removed.
