BioHorizons Dental Implants

After placing tens of thousands of dental implants, our clinic knows the importance of using high quality implants and connections that provide stability and longevity. Our office uses BioHorizons dental implants. BioHorizons is one of the worldwide leaders in dental implant technology, and we can see the difference as we achieve incredible surgical success and implant longevity for our patients.

Although it may just look like a screw to the untrained eye, BioHorizons has spent millions of dollars in research and development creating the perfect implant, that integrates quickly and effectively to the bone, and eliminates weak points that are susceptible to breakage and failure. BioHorizons implants also carry a lifetime warranty.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a surgical component that connects to the bone of the jaw to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, or denture. Frequently the term "dental implant" is used to describe the entire restoration of an implant, abutment, and crown.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants are most often made of titanium as this material is strong and can fuse to human bone in a process called osseointegration. This process also protects the bone in the mouth from bone deterioration. For this reason we suggest getting an implant as soon as possible after a tooth is lost, or if possible at the time of extraction.

Dental implants replace missing teeth in the most natural feeling way. The tooth looks, feels, and functions like a regular tooth. This means it can withstand natural chewing pressure unlike other options such as a flipper and feels natural when speaking.

Unlike a dental bridge, a dental implant does not require reducing other teeth. This is a one tooth solution for a one tooth problem, improving long-term oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth for better hygiene. With good care, it’s possible for implants to last a lifetime.

What does a dental implant cost?

Our shown price is all inclusive with the implant placed along with the abutment and crown. Occasionally there can be additional charges if a patient requires extractions, bone grafting, or other measures.

We understand that dental implants can be expensive. We are always up front with our patients on how much implants cost at our office, and make sure our prices are some of the lowest you’ll find! We also accept most insurances and flex-spending plans and also have no-interest financing.

What are the alternatives to dental implants?

If a tooth is missing there are really only a couple options besides an implant.

The first is a partial denture or "flipper. For some people flippers can be uncomfortable and potentially damage other teeth in the mouth through the repetitive placing and removal of the prosthesis. We general only recommend flippers for temporary use.

The second alternative is a dental bridge. A bridge can feel natural and look good, but it requires grinding down the neighboring teeth of the one that needs replacement. This in turn can make these teeth more susceptible to future failure themselves.

Will it be painful?

During the procedure, most patients only require local anesthesia, which takes away almost any pain you would normally feel. This doesn't make you nauseous and won't prohibit you from driving. However, many patients prefer additional anesthesia. Nitrous gas is available for no extra cost and IV sedation is available for an additional charge.

Zygomatic and Pterygoid Implants For Severe Bone Loss

Smile Clinic is prepared to help our patients with significant bone loss have the opportunity to get implants using zygomatic or pterygoid implants. Many of our patients have been told by other offices that they aren't candidates for dental implants because they don't have enough. We encourage you to come in for a second opinion. Very few dental surgeons have the training and experience that you'll find at Smile Clinic.

Mini Implants

Occassionally, we'll have a patient ask about mini implants. Mini implants are basically a dental implant that is very skinny. For this reason, there is a higher probability of failure. We generally don't recommend mini implants for our patients, but our doctors will be happy to discuss them with you and help you decide if they are right for your situation.

Ceramic Or Zirconia Implants

Titanium has become the standard material for dental implants. Titanium is also used in other surgeries where artificial bone is required, such as knee, ankle and shoulder replacements. This is because titanium more easily integrates into the bone than other materials. It has a similar makeup to calcium, which is also in our bones. However, there are very rare instances where someone will have an allergy to titanium. In those instances, or where a patient objects to the use of titanium, we can place ceramic or zirconia implants for an additional fee.
